In this article, we will focus on water importance in human body. Water is an essential nutrient of the human body. After oxygen, water is the second most important element of life. About 55% to 75% of our body is water according to gender and body size. Water is present in all the cells, tissues and organs of the body, so it is very important for life.

We do not get any calories or organic nutrients from the water, but clean, drinkable water is still necessary for humans and other organisms.

All chemical activity in the body is done through the water. Water helps in digestion, absorption of nutrients, transporting them to different parts of the body and removing waste materials from the body. Water also has a role in keeping body temperature at a normal level and balancing electrolytes.

Our body needs about 7-10 litres of water daily for two days to function normally and avoid dehydration.

Our body’s actual need for water, physical activities, temperature etc. depends on many circumstances. Apart from drinking plain water, our total daily supply of water is also from food and beverages.

Are we drinking clean water?

Water pollution is a major environmental issue. Domestic and industrial waste is polluting most of the water sources. According to the World Health Organization, every year 3.5 million people die from diseases caused by unhygienic water, i.e. contaminated water is killing seven people every minute in the world.

Water purify methods

  1. Many people boil water before drinking, most microorganisms present in the water die by boiling, but harmful heavy metals like lead, mercury and arsenic dissolve in the water are not removed and it can give rise to many health problems. Therefore, it is not enough to boil water to purify it.
  2. Generally, drinking water in homes is sieved with a thin cloth, but even by doing this, the micro-bacteria and heavy metals present in the water are not removed.
  3. There are many types of artificial water filters available today which claim to provide the purest and safest drinking water – such as activated carbon, water technology, chemicals, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technology based on water purification.
  4. Among the different types of filters available, filters based on a combination of ultrafiltration technology and reverse osmosis techniques are the best because they remove all harmful microorganisms, minerals and heavy metals from the water and give us clean and safe potable water hence it is one of the best water purify methods.

Alkalinity is required for the body to function smoothly hence we need to adjust water pH for drinking. The quality of water is determined by the pH of the water (power of hydrogen), that is, the amount of hydrogen ion in it, which is a measure of whether the water is alkaline or acid below pH seven, on a scale of 0 to 14 and the acidic and seven The measurement above indicates alkalinity.

Thus, it can neutralize the acids present in the blood, promote metabolism and help in better absorption of nutrients by the body, hence alkaline water benefits can’t be ignored. 

Alkaline water can help to slow down the effects of ageing by preventing damage to cells through harmful free radicals and preventing many diseases. Apart from this, alkaline water benefits include in weight loss and to increase physical energy, mental capacity and bones strength. 

More research is needed on this subject but some studies have yielded promising results. According to a study published in the 2001 issue of Shanghai Journal of Preventive Medicine, drinking of alkaline water for a few months causes a decrease in cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure.

So how can we get pure and clean potable water?

To drink safe and clean water, it is necessary to completely rinse and purify it, for which we have two measures 

  1. Mountain ranges like the Swiss Alps, Hindukush and Himalayas are the highest sources of freshwater in the world, from which we can get clean water. The pH of this water is more than 7 and it is pure and suitable for drinking.
  2. The water can be purified using filters that have the ability to remove both microorganisms and heavy metals and provide water with a pH of 9.5.

Different water drinks

Water itself has many benefits, but the benefits of consuming water drinks by adding some ingredients, such as fruit, vegetable or flower petals, greatly increase health benefits. You can also make flavoured water drinks at home.

Ginger water before meals

Drinking ginger or ginger water in the morning or before eating food keeps blood sugar levels balanced. How to make:

Take water in a pan and add ginger and boil it for 10-15 minutes. Now drink this water. This water also helps you to reduce cold, headache, period pain, gas, hair growth and weight loss. 

Drinking a small amount of ginger water regularly improves digestion and also protects against cold and flu infections.

Sweet water with Cucumber

Cucumber water has many health benefits, including hydration, weight loss, blood pressure reduction, and skin health. So cut two slices of cucumber in the jug of water and leave it overnight. Then drink this water throughout the day. 

Drinking is great for healthy skin and reducing nausea. Cucumber water contains antioxidants and other nutrients, which are good for skin as well as muscle health.

Cumin water

Cumin water is seen as detox water. It is said to be beneficial for weight loss and good sleep. Take water in a pan with ghee and add cumin seeds and boil it for ten minutes. Then drink this water. It is rich in antioxidant properties.

Water and honey

It creates moisture and also helps to increase the level of good cholesterol in your body and reduces cardiovascular stress. This helps your body to flush out the toxins that can cause illness. It is also helpful in curing sore throat and reducing weight.

Lemonade for immunity

Lemons are rich in vitamin C and many other nutrients, which strengthen your immunity, improve digestion and promote overall health. Drinking lemonade is a better way to increase immunity. It is the best natural detox water for your body. It should be drunk before taking food. It is very good for healthy digestion.
